Reds announced in WA Steel team

The WA Steel will commence their Australian Volleyball League (AVL) season this weekend against the Canberra Heat at Warwick Stadium.

Jess Burton, who represented the Steel for the first time in 2018, said that “this year will be a great opportunity for a new squad of players to develop together and test some of the more experienced teams in the competition.”
First year player Ryan Slater said that he was, “looking forward to learning from the best in WA and how they go about their business in the lead up to competition.” The Albany product joined the Reds this season and played for the Club’s League and Reserves sides throughout the 2019 WAVL season. “I can’t wait to put on the black and gold for the Steel after a great first season at Reds and continue to have access to some of the best coaching and mentoring in WA.”

The Steel Women finished fourth in the competition last season, whilst the men’s team won the bronze medal playoff.

The Steel teams will play ten matches across five rounds as they seek to qualify for the finals to be held on the Gold Coast on 7th and 8th December. The reformatted six team competition will see the Steel take on the Canberra Heat, UTSSU Shield, Adelaide Storm, Queensland Pirates and the Melbourne Vipers.
