Ruggiero and Laverdure to lead Reds in the 2022 WAVL State League

Michael Ruggiero and Jason Laverdure will lead Reds Volleyball Club in the 2022 WAVL State League as Head Coaches of the Club’s State League teams.

Ruggiero was appointed Head Coach of the women’s State League team and will be joined in the women’s squad by Greg Hunt who continues in his role as Head Coach of the State League Reserves side and Kenrick Armitage who will join Reds as an Associate Head Coach.

A former WA Hornets Captain and WA State Junior Indoor Head Coach, Ruggiero was instrumental in the development of the Penrhos College Volleyball Program, alongside Armitage, that has produced 5 Australian Volleyball Academy athletes in recent years.

Ruggiero, a former professional athlete for Lutry-Lavaux in the Swiss A League,  is looking forward to coaching alongside Armitage and 2020 State League Reserves Women Championship winning coach, Greg Hunt.

“We have seen Reds grow and go from strength to strength over the past few years and love the direction the club is going. The players are passionate about their sport and their club and we are really keen to be involved with these talented players.

“We are very lucky to have three experienced and passionate coaches of women’s volleyball working together this year. The three of us all work really well together and compliment each other’s strengths. We are really looking forward working with a great group of athletes and know that the coaching unit will have a great time doing it as well,” Ruggiero said.

Jason Laverdure will continue his involvement in the men’s program at Reds as Head Coach of the State League Men. A former Mauritius National Team and WA Hornets athlete, Laverdure has previously coached Reds State League Reserves and Division 1 teams, while representing Reds as a setter in the State League.

Laverdure will be joined by former Brazilian National Team athlete Victor Gabriel Goncalves as the Head Coach of the State League Reserves team, while former Australian beach representative, Josh Court, will continue his involvement in the men’s program as Associate Head Coach.

Laverdure is excited about his elevation to the Head Coach role and is ready to begin working with the men’s group.

“I am excited to continue my journey with Reds Volleyball Club in this new and exciting role. I look forward to working with other coaches and help the squad and the club to keep building our men’s program and reach our objectives.

“We have a big year ahead to build on our performance from last season and I can’t wait to begin working with our squad of players for the upcoming season,” Laverdure said.

Reds Volleyball Club President Anthony Meo welcomed the new and returning State League coaches.

“Reds is very fortunate to have a group of passionate and dedicated coaches to lead our teams in the State League once again this season. All coaches share a genuine love for volleyball and an eagerness to continue to improve the quality and performance of our State League program,” Meo said.
