Internationally renowned Olympic Indoor Volleyball Gold Medalists from Brazil, Giba and Mauricio are coming to Perth as part of the their Legends’ Volleyball Tour of Australia. The pair have begun their tour of Sydney, Perth and Melbourne where they will host a series of clinics, seminars and exhibition matches aimed at promoting the game of volleyball in Australia.
Perth Reds Volleyball Association has partnered with the Melbourne based Volleyball Institute of Performance (VIP) to bring the pair to the west for a series of clinics, camps and courses beginning on Monday 15 January at Aquinas College.
Giba is considered one of the greatest indoor volleyball athletes of all time. A Hall of Fame recipient and Athens’ 2004 Gold Medalist, the outside hitter is a 3-time World Championship champion, 8-time World League champion and a 2-time World Cup winner.
Mauricio is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist setter for Brazil, winning gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and 2004 Athens’ Games alongside Giba. The four-time World League champion and World Cup champion made 575 appearances for Brazil from 1991-2004.
Reds Volleyball Club State League Reserves Head Coach Victor Gabriel Goncalves played alongside both Giba and Mauricio for Brazil and said that the upcoming Legends Tour in Perth was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the volleyball community in WA.
“I am glad to live this day to see these two legends of our game step onto the courts at Aquinas. I had the opportunity to see them back in the day as my idols and also face them on the court. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to absorb their volleyball knowledge,” Goncalves said.

Thursday 18 January – 1-4pm: Half Day Specialist Pass-Hitter Camp with Giba and Half Day Specialist Setter Camp with Mauricio.
