2023 Youth Volley League champions crowned

The inaugural Youth Volley League (YVL) finished with a bang last week as WAFSCI BALIBOLISTA claimed titles in the Open Boys and Open Girls divisions, while Greenwood College and Como Secondary College took out the Junior Boys and Junior Girls divisions.

The Friday night competition saw 11 different schools and clubs compete across the YVL and YVL – Kids in the first edition of the league hosted by the Perth Reds Volleyball Association. 20 teams across 4 divisions competed in the YVL and an additional 4 teams competed in the Youth Volley League – Kids.

At Aquinas College, BALIBOLISTA overcame a strong challenge from Reds 4-AC Black in the Open Boys final to secure the win in three sets. BALIBOLISTA also proved too strong in the Open Girls division, defeating Iona in two highly competitive sets.

The Junior Boys and Girls Finals were staged at Penrhos College, with Greenwood continuing their strong run of form in the competition by defeating Reds 2-AC Red in straight sets of the Junior Boys final. Como Secondary took out the Junior Girls division with a convincing performance against Reds in the final.

Perth Reds Director of Volleyball, Max Wason, highlighted the success of the YVL and the opportunity for the League in the future. 

“The inaugural youth volley league was a fantastic first step in our growing competition offering for our community. There was great atmosphere every night, close matches and great sportsmanship shown. We are excited about the potential of this competition and look forward to seeing it grow and evolve for both YVL and YVL – Kids,” Wason said.

Perth Reds President, Anthony Meo, thanked the hundreds of contributors who made the YVL a reality in 2023.

“I want to say a big thank you to all competition staff, volunteers, supporters, schools and clubs who helped to facilitate a sensational competition. The first edition of the YVL was a great success and it was amazing to see so many people having a wonderful time on court,” Meo said.

Open Boys: WAFSCI BALIBOLISTA defeated Reds 4-AC Black 2:1 (25-21, 22-25, 16-12)
Open Girls: WAFSCI BALIBOLISTA defeated Iona 2:0 (26-24, 27-25)
Junior Boys: Greenwood defeated Reds 2-AC Red 2:0 (25-23, 25-6)
Junior Girls: Como-Reds 8 defeated Reds 9 2:0 (25-17, 25-7)
YVL Kids: Reds 2 defeated Victoria Park Primary School (14-21, 21-18, 15-11)
