The Perth Reds Volleyball Association is incredibly excited to welcome the announcement made by the WA Liberal Party today for a $37.5 million election commitment for the development of a 12 court indoor multi-sport stadium in Kensington to become the home of the Perth Reds. The announcement is one of the most significant election commitments toward indoor sporting infrastructure in Western Australia and one of the most significant direct investments in volleyball in Australia.

WA Liberal Party Leader Libby Mettam, Liberal Candidate for South Perth – Bronwyn Waugh, Liberal Candidate for Bateman – Nitin Vashisht and Liberal Candidate for Victoria Park – Andra Biondi joined members of the Perth Reds Volleyball Association and Perth Basketball Association (Redbacks) to make the announcement on the South Perth Foreshore on Saturday morning in a huge win for indoor community sport in Western Australia.

This regional-level facility will service basketball, volleyball, netball, badminton and many other sports and would become the largest indoor court facility in Western Australia, servicing a significant amount of the Perth metropolitan population.

Quotes attributed to WA Liberal Leader Libby Mettam:

“We stand with 10,000 petitioners and the local community who think the Kensington site represents an amazing opportunity for South Perth and the wider community.

“The WA Liberals are proud to, once again, show local leadership in the project that we believe in and in a site that accommodates the needs of the community.

“Our Building a Better Future blueprint makes it clear that health is a top priority, which is why we are serious about investing to support the physical and mental health of our community by giving kids and adults the best opportunity to stay fit, active, and connected through sport.”

A big win for South Perth: Liberal Candidate for South Perth Bronwyn Waugh detailing the commitment.

Quotes attributed to Liberal Candidate for South Perth Bronwyn Waugh:

“A Mettam Liberal Government will commit land and $37.5 million to a new multi-sport stadium in Kensington that will provide the Redbacks and Reds with a desperately needed home venue.

“With half the total funding on the table thanks to the WA Liberals, this is a big win for the residents of South Perth who’ve waited too long for the community facilities they desperately need.

“Between the Redbacks and Reds, they use more than 50 different venues to run programs and competitions, because of the under-investment in community sports.

“Kids shouldn’t have to sit on waitlists to play sport, and members of all ages deserve accessible facilities close to home, to play the sports they love.”

“A great day for volleyball”: Perth Reds Volleyball Association President Anthony Meo addressing the media.

Quotes attributed to President of Perth Reds Volleyball Association Anthony Meo:

“Today is a great day for sport in Western Australia, a great day for volleyball and a great day for the Perth Reds Volleyball Association.

“We are incredibly grateful for this significant commitment made by the WA Liberals toward this project and for the engagement that we have had with Libby, Bronwyn and the wider WA Liberal Team.

“This commitment is about backing in future generations of indoor sport lovers to give more kids and people of all ages the opportunity to play indoor community sport in a local, central and accessible location.

“We look forward to continuing our advocacy to make this project a reality and deliver a home for the Perth Reds Volleyball Association.”
