Karratha set to ignite as Reds hit the Red Dirt for Regional Round

The Reds State League Women will be flying north this weekend to be a part of Regional Round in Karratha; marking the first time a WAVL State League match will be played in the Pilbara town when Reds takes on Chequers.

Volleyball WA’s Regional Round will be run alongside the North West Volleyball Association’s annual Northwest Regional Volleyball Tournament featuring teams from Karratha, Tom Price and Port Hedland as well as a series of clinics and workshops aimed at boosting volleyball participation in the Pilbara.

Reds State League setter Alycia Buenaflor is set for a thrilling homecoming as she returns to the court where it all began.

“I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to perform with such an amazing group of women, and doing so in my hometown just makes this whole experience so incredible. I think we’re going to have a great weekend and showcase some really good quality volleyball,” Buenaflor said.

Chris Cowan, North West Volleyball Association President and Alycia’s Grandfather, could not be more excited for the action-packed weekend that awaits.

“We’re so pumped to have such an awesome event happening right here in Karratha! It’s been a long time in the making — heaps of planning, teamwork, and probably one too many coffees — but it’s all been totally worth it.

“Full disclosure: I might be a little biased because my granddaughter’s playing — so obviously, I think our team’s unbeatable! But seriously, this is going to be one heck of an event, and we can’t wait to see everyone get involved. Let’s go!” Cowan added.

All Smiles: Alycia Buenaflor is pumped to be returning to her hometown this weekend.

North West Volleyball Association Public Relations Coordinator Chatthip Buenaflor is looking forward to seeing her daughter in action for Reds on her home-court in Karratha.

“To be able to showcase the level of volleyball from Perth here in Karratha is something I’m really proud of.

“What makes this opportunity even more meaningful is that it includes regional towns like Tom Price and Port Hedland. It’s a reminder that volleyball isn’t just thriving in the city, it’s growing in every corner of state,” Buenaflor said.

“I’m so excited to seeing my daughter in action for Reds in her hometown in front of the Karratha community!” Buenaflor added.

Reds Volleyball Club expresses our sincere thanks and appreciation to Volleyball WA and North West Volleyball Association for hosting the event and to the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, City of Karratha and Lotterywest for their incredible support of this event.
