Reds bid farewell to Joshua Court, Laurel Wentworth and Jimmie Mok

Reds State League coaches Joshua Court and Laurel Wentworth and Reds Junior coach, Jimmie Mok, have each informed their clubs that they will not be coaching for Reds or Reds Junior in 2022. The trio each joined the Reds Volleyball Club in 2019 as coaches of the Reds Western Australian Volleyball League (WAVL) State League and Division 1 teams.

Their involvement in the Club extended beyond the Reds WAVL program and all three were heavily involved in coordinating and coaching preseason and offseason sessions.

Wentworth’s highlights included two finals appearances with the women’s League team in 2019 and 2020, that culminated in Reds winning the women’s State League and State League Reserves championships for the first time in Reds history last year. Wentworth was the main driver of the Reds Offseason in 2020 and spent considerable time in developing junior and senior athletes in the WAVL offseason period.

Court has taken the men’s State League team from last in the competition in 2019 to the Grand Final in 2021. Josh was heavily involved with the State League squad and was a core part in helping the Reserves side to three consecutive preliminary finals. Court, who was named the Volleyball WA Community Coach of the Year in 2020, also enjoyed a positive stint as a player while at the Club as a Middle Blocker and Opposite. Josh was also an integral part of the commencement of Reds Beach and helped the Club establish a successful program on the sand.

Reds President, Anthony Meo, thanked Court and Wentworth for their service to the Club over the past three years.

“Josh and Laurel have given significant service to the Reds community and will be greatly missed by our members. Their contributions to the men’s and women’s programs at Reds have strengthened our State League program and provided outstanding opportunities for our athletes and other coaches to be coached and mentored by highly experienced individuals who share a love and passion for our sport.”

Reds Junior President, Logan Vanderweide, paid tribute to the service of Jimmie Mok.

“Jimmie’s dedication to the development of aspiring young athletes saw Reds Junior win our first championship in our inaugural season in the WAVL competition. Jimmie will be sincerely missed around the Club and we would like to thank him for all his work not just at Reds but in the wider volleyball community.”

Mok who first coached for Reds in Division 1 in 2019, spent the past two seasons coaching for Reds Junior and guided a promising group of junior girls to a Division 2 Championship in 2020, before progressing the team in Division 1 this year.
