The 2024 Indoor Youth Volley League finished with a series of incredible matches on an action-packed Finals Night across Aquinas College and Penrhos College last Friday. The second season of the competition saw 22 teams from 8 different schools and clubs hit the court for Friday night competition.
The YVL Kids Grand Final saw Victoria Park Primary School Sky take out a hard fought win against Reds in two close sets, while it was Reds 2 who defeated Gilmore College in the Junior Girls division in straight sets.
In the Open Girls division, Balibolista 1 was too strong for Penrhos College in the Grand Final, securing back-to-back victories after taking out the 2023 Open Girls title. Penrhos overcame Balibolista 2 in a semi-final upset to reach the Grand Final, but the higher ranked Balibolista 1 team proved too good, coming away with a straight sets win.
Reds 2 and Aquinas went into the final night as the lower-ranked teams of the Open Boys division, but both teams caused upsets against Balibolista and Rossmoyne to progress to the Grand Final, where it was AC Black who avenged their 2023 Grand Final loss to record their first title.
Perth Reds Competitions & Events Coordinator Gabrielle Ho was thrilled to see some outstanding volleyball played on Grand Final Night and over the course of the 2024 YVL and YVL Kids seasons.
“It was incredible to witness the quality of competition improve as teams developed throughout the season, culminating in highly competitive and thrilling games, especially in the finals. The evenly-matched teams created exciting and entertaining gameplay, which is a true credit to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches involved,” Ho said.
Following the inaugural season of the competition in 2023, Perth Reds Director of Volleyball Max Wason was excited to see the competition grow in its second season.
“It is very pleasing to see the growth and continued improvement in the level of competition in the Indoor Youth Volley League and YVL Kids. Our thanks go to the players, coaches, team managers, referees and coordinators for their amazing efforts in helping the competition run smoothly. An incredibly successful season, tight games in all divisions and it was great to see everyone enjoying playing volleyball on a Friday night,” Wason said.
